Dimensional Accuracy

As winding operations become increasingly automated, accuracy of carrier dimension becomes vital. Machinery manufacturers’ manuals specify that the yarn carrier is made to a tolerance of +/- 1 mm in length and +/- 0.25 mm in inside diameter at both top and bottom of the carrier. These tolerances are critical to the operation of the machines in order to achieve targeted efficiency. Our paper yarn carriers are made and guaranteed to these tolerances.

Balanced – Round

The yarn carrier must be round. The faster the take up speed, the more bouncing will occur. Bouncing at the time of start up causes fiber latching in the yarn that results in an irregular, jerky offwind and poor yarn transfer. An oval carrier also contributes to poor tension control in the beginning of the yarn package formation that allows the yarn to slough instead of transfer. Our technology ensures round carriers every time.

Yarn Identification

Trying to identify yarn packages by color alone can cause problems especially in poorly lit areas. We have an innovative system in which we offer a choice of colors plus easily recognize patterns to enhance the customer’s creative identification program. Custom printing is available for both inside and outside of yarn carrier. The printing can include the yarn producer’s name, company logo, yarn identification and origin. Our customers can often reduce the high cost of labeling by utilizing this feature.

A very important feature of any yarn carrier is the outside surface that holds and protects the quality of yarn being produced. Some carriers have a flocked surface. The flocking material is a manmade fiber that has been glued to the surface of the carriers.

At the startup of a flocked carrier, some of the fibers immediately fly into the air and settle on the bearings of the take up unit, causing excessive and expensive wear.

Additionally, this loose fiber often lingers in the air and can be inhaled by operators. We have also seen fiber from flocked carriers mingle with cotton yarns causing small undyed spots in fabric made with this yarn.

The PLUSH® surface on Conitex Sonoco paper yarn carriers utilizes the paper’s fibers to generate a soft, clean surface that protects the yarn quality and provides excellent holding properties for proper startup. There are no loose fibers to be concerned about.

For special requirements, we also offer surface treatments such as flocking, brushing and spraying.

We manufacture paper tubes with surfaces designed for the particular yarn process the customer is using.

Rotor spinning responds best to a regular PLUSH® paper finish surface that not only properly holds the yarn in place but is also suitable for printing colors and designs.

Air Jet Spinning, due to the configuration of the tube holder, requires outside lining with either kraft finish paper or greaseproof paper, along with startup grooves or slots.
